Chinese Government Scholarship Application Procedures

I.General

Under the agreement between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Province of British Columbia (B.C.) as well as Province of Alberta,the Chinese Government provides a number of scholarships encouraging residents of British Columbia and Alberta to study in China.Five full and ten partial scholarships for each province are available annually. 

Education office,the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver in collaboration with the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills in B.C. and the Ministry of Advanced Education in Alberta are responsible for the application reviewing,evaluation,recruitment of students and routine management of the Chinese Government Scholarship.

A scholarship review committee recommends scholarship candidates to the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The CSC evaluates candidates and advises the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (PEFS) in B.C. and the Ministry of Advanced Education in Alberta of final recommendations. The PEFS in B.C. and the Ministry of Advanced Education in Alberta notify successful candidates.

II.Procedures

1. Applicants from British Columbia and Alberta are required to log on the following websites to check the deadline for receiving applications and prepare for mailing the documents required.

Applicants from B.C.:

2. An online application is required by the China Scholarship Council.Please be noted that the Program Category is Type A while the Agency Number is 1242 for both B.C.and Alberta.

Usually,the CGS online application opens at the end of each year and shutdowns at the beginning of next year  (generally from Novermber to February).

Please see the step-by-step instructions on the online application.

Step1: Visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click “Scholarship Application Online for International Students”.

Step 2: Read “Tips for online application” carefully before clicking “NEXT” to the registration page.

Step 3: Log in with your user name and password. For new user, please click “Create an account” for registration.

Step4: Fill in the correct Program Category and Agency Number as above mentioned.

Step 5: Fill in the online application form and upload supporting documents truly, correctly and completely following the steps listed on the left of the page.Applicants are required to select a discipline before choosing their majors.Please refer to the Disciplines Index, which could be downloaded from Help, if you have any doubt about the disciplines and majors. 

Step 6: Check each part of your Application carefully before submitting it.Click Submit to submit your Application.The submitted documents will be the only reference for the applied universities to confirm the admission.

Step 7: You can make changes to your application by clicking Withdraw and Edit the Application on the top of the page.But make sure to submit it again by clicking Submit after finishing all the changes.Otherwise,the retrieved application will become invalid and your new application will not be received either. 

Step 8: You can download and print the completed Application Form by clicking Print the Application Form. 

Step 9: Post the paper application form and other supporting documents to the AEST in B.C. and the Ministry of Advanced Education in Alberta as required on their websites.

Please use Firefox or Internet Explorer (11.0). Menu selection functions may not work in other browsers.Only Chinese and English are accepted for the online application.

3. Application result

Usually,the application result will be released at the beginning of June. The B.C.Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills,  Alberta Advanced Education and Education Office, Consulate-General of The People's Republic of China in Vancouver will be responsible for the notification of the result to all the applicants by e-mail.

4. Visa package mailing

The Letter of Admission and Visa Application for Studying in China (JW201) will be posted to the scholarship recipients at the beginning of July.  It’s time for the recipients to apply for the Chinese visa at the nearest visa section of the Chinese Consulate General and be prepared to study in China.
