2026-2027 Chinese Government Scholarship is now open for Application from British Columbia and Alberta

  1.General Information

  The Education and Culture Office,Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, together with Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills of British Columbia and Ministry of Advanced Education of Alberta, will be responsible for the application process.

  2. Eligibility

  To be eligible, applicants must:

  - be a citizen of Canada, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

  - be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

  - be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

  - be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

  - be a high school graduate (at least) under the age of 45 when applying for general scholar programs;

  - be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

  - Undergraduate applicants are required to take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). Detailed information about the test can be found at www.csca.cn.

  - have acquired the HSK Level 3 when applying for Chinese-taught General Scholar or Senior Scholar programs;

  - have acquired the HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs;

  - meet the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability, language proficiency and other relevant criteria.

  Applicants who have obtained a degree from a Chinese university where Chinese was the language of instruction are not required to provide a Chinese language proficiency certificate.

  3. Application Documents

  a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English).

  b. Copy of Passport Home Page: Applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of his/her ordinary passport with validity later than March 1, 2027.

  c. Notarized highest diploma: Prospective grandutes must submit an official proof of student status issued by their current institution. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

  d. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

  e. Language qualification certificates and Entrance Proficiency Test Result. Undergraduate Studies applicants must upload the Score Report of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK reports in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements.

  f. Pre-Admission Documents. All applicants must provide a pre-admission document issued by the universities applying. Pre-admission documents include pre-admission notice issued by the international students admission department or invitation letter from the schools , etc.

  g. A Study Plan or Research Proposal ( in Chinese or English), at least 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.

  h. Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English ).

  i. Example of Art. To apply for art or design related majors, applicants could submit their own works through “Example of Art/Other Supporting Documents” in the system. Applicants could also provide such materials to the applied universities directly in other ways.

  j. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

  k. Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of this Form(completed in English ). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

  l. Non-criminal record report. A valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the application submission.

  Reminder: Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

  Notes:Undergraduate Studies applicants must finish the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) before the deadline of the online application.

  4. Online Application:

  Please read the instructions carefully before applying online.

  Step 1: Visit “CSC Study in China” website and click “Scholarship Application for Students”at http://www.campuschina.org. Create an account and log in .

  Step 2: Fill in Personal Details.

  Step 3: Select the correct “Program Category”. Choose “Type A”.

  Step 4: Enter the correct Agency Number. Your Agency Number is: 1242

  Program Category and Agency Number must match, otherwise,your application will not be processed.

  Step 5: Fill in Application Information, including Language Proficiency , Study Plan and upload Supporting Documents . Review carefully before submission.

  Step 6: Once submitted, applications cannot be modified. To make changes, click “Withdraw” before it is processed, edit, and resubmit.

  Step 7: Click “Print the Application Form” to download it.

  Step 8: Submit either a hard copy or electronic version of your application according to the requirements of your provincial ministry (B.C. or Alberta).

  Notes:

  Applications with an incorrect Agency Number will not be processed.

  5. Application Result

  Applicants will be able to check their admission results directly in the online system.

  If admitted, they can also download the necessary documents for visa application through the same system.

  6. Visa Package Mailing

  The Letter of Admission and Visa Application for Study in China (JW201 Form) will be E-mailed to the scholarship recipients. Recipients should then apply for a Chinese visa at the nearest Chinese Consulate-General and make preparations to study in China.

  5. Application result

  Usually,the application result will be released in May. Applicants will be able to check their admission results directly in the online system. If admitted, Applicants can also obtain the necessary documents for visa application through the same system.

  6. Visa package mailing 

  The Letter of Admission and Visa Application for Studying in China (JW201) will be posted to the scholarship recipients at the beginning of July. It’s time for the recipients to apply for the Chinese visa at the nearest visa section of the Chinese Consulate General and be prepared to study in China.

  The deadline for  the online application is February 22, 2026.
